Lyrics

El Blanco
South of the border, cross the Rio Grande
there lived some wild horses, fastest known to man
And the fastest of these was El Blanco.

And in the little village, on the edge of town
There lived a poor boy, the poorest around
His name was Juan. And Juan loved Juanita.

Juan told Juanita, somehow someday
I’m gonna catch El Blanco and race him that day.
Then our troubles, they will all fade away.
And you and I, we’ll live happily ever after.

One day Juan, he comes to town
And he’s caught El Blanco, wins every race around
And Juan tells Juanita, now we’re on our way.

But I want to race El Blanco in the Promised Land
Way up north of the Rio Grande
Just one more race and we’ll live happily ever after.

So Juan takes El Blanco to the Promised Land
Way up north of the Rio Grande
And Blanco is ready in the gates when the race days comes.

When suddenly Juan he’s gripped with fear
But it is too late, the race is here
And in a flash, those horses they’re off.

Blanco he took off at a break neck pace
Juan had everything riding on that race
And then he and Juanita they would live happily ever after.

And as Blanco came around the final bend.
The great horse stumbled and never rose again
And Juanita, she never again heard from Juan.

South of the border cross the Rio Grande
There lived some wild horses, fastest known to man
And the fastest of these was El Blanco
